Provenance

Built on open source. We say so.

Our runtime is a fork of OpenAgent, from the team behind AFFiNE. You should be able to inspect what you pay for — so here is the full lineage, not a licence badge.

Three licence layers

One repo, two licences, one upstream.

"Open source" means little without saying which licence covers which directory. There are three layers, with different obligations.

01 · Root

Apache 2.0

Permissive: use, modify, redistribute — keep the licence, notices and a statement of changes. Ships in every source archive.

apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0
02 · Server

GNU AGPL v3

Copyleft over the network: anyone our servers serve can request the exact source they're running. Hosting doesn't dodge it — that's the point.

gnu.org/licenses/agpl-3.0.html
03 · Upstream

AFFiNE lineage

OpenAgent descends from AFFiNE, licensed by its own authors — MIT frontend, separately licensed backend. We list the upstream commits we carry.

The source offer

Your licence right, in writing.

Every customer is a network user under AGPL section 13. So this offer stands — no conditions, no support plan, no reason required.

The offer

  • The complete source of the server package running on your machine, at its exact revision
  • Including our modifications, build scripts and config — not just upstream code
  • Free, under AGPL v3 terms
  • Open while the version is in service, plus three years after
  • Requesting it never affects your account

Your dashboard shows the running revision, so a request can name the exact build.

The eight machines

Each one is somebody else's project.

We package and host these runtimes; we don't own them. Where a licence isn't verified against the current release, the cell says so — a guessed licence is worse than an honest gap.

Models

The model is named on every job.

A machine is a runtime, not a model. Swapping the model changes what a job costs and what it can do — so your receipt names it, every time.

No key needed

ZeroClaw, DeepSeek Harness and Desktop Agent run open-weight models through our metered gateway, priced against your allowance.

Key or proxy

OpenClaw, Browser, Hermes and Flue take your OPENAI_API_KEY or fall back to the proxy. Jobs on your key are itemized but billed by that vendor.

Key required

Claude Code needs your ANTHROPIC_API_KEY — its model isn't resold here. The job record still names the model for the audit trail.

Request the source

Four steps. No account review, no reason.

01 / Revision

Read it off the dashboard

The machine page prints the running server revision and image tag. Copy both.

02 / Ask

Email the request

Name the revision and which part you want — AGPL server, Apache root, or both. No form, no account manager.

03 / Receive

A signed archive

Source, licences, build scripts and config to run the same version. Answered within ten business days.

04 / Verify

Diff against upstream

The archive lists the upstream commits carried, so the fork can be checked with an ordinary diff — not taken on trust.

What we changed

The fork, published — even the unflattering parts.

Published nowComplete source of the running server, on request, with every modification.
Published nowThe upstream commits the fork carries, in the same archive.
In preparationA readable per-release changelog, and a public mirror so a diff needs no request.
Shape of the changesMulti-tenancy, metering and receipts, the scheduler, mail quarantine — additions around the runtime, not rewrites of it.

When the changelog exists it replaces this text, with the date it did.

Inspect it from the inside.

The trial is free. Your dashboard shows the running revision from day one, and the source offer applies to trial machines too.
